School of Roots Students Collaborate with Innovative Aquaculturists
On Wednesday March 20th, the scraping and sawing sounds of fish being filleted and processed provided the background for a conversation between School of Roots students and several leading innovators in Maine aquaculture. Students gathered in the corner of Port Clyde Fresh Catch's sterile processing room to listen and ask questions as marine biologists Tap Pryor and Chris Heinig explained how they grew the Black Sea Bass being filleted on the table, why they had approached School of Roots to market and sell their fish, and what future innovations their company, RAS Corporation, is envisioning. Our Day at Port Clyde Fresh Catch

We went to Port Clyde Fresh Catch in the fall. We had to get our tilapia filleted because we had too many fish.
We had a lot of baby fish and if we didn't fillet the bigger fish we wouldn't have enough space for our babies. Everyone at Herring Gut helped take all of our tilapia in big coolers to Port Clyde Fresh Catch. We all put the fish on the table to be filleted. We brought over 250 lbs of fresh tilapia. Everyone took shifts going there and going back to Herring Gut. We got to meet all of the awesome workers that filleted all of our tilapia. We got to watch the workers fillet all of the tilapia we brought. When the workers cut into the frozen fish it sounded like a saw going through a plank of wood.
