Summer Camp Director

Description: The Herring Gut Learning Center is a non-profit marine education center in Port Clyde, Maine. Its mission is to educate students, teachers and the public about Maine's marine resources through aquaculture, environmental studies and research opportunities. In the summers, Herring Gut offers a coed marine science day camp for children ages 8-13. The goal of this program is to inspire young people to explore, discover, and learn about Maine's marine resources through the unique hands-on Herring Gut experience. The Summer Camp Director will further the camp's mission through program development and management, financial and marketing strategies, human resources, and strategic operations.

Duties/Responsibilities
Design, deliver, and evaluate camp program
Develop and implement crisis and risk procedure
Design and implement marketing plan
Recruit, train, and supervise staff
Oversee camper enrollment
Oversee daily operation of summer camp
Educate campers in the classroom and field
Assist staff in leading marine science-based activities, games, and art projects

Skills/Qualifications
Marine education background
Proficient computer skills in word processing and data management
Proficient writing and communication skills
Reliability
Organization and multitasking skills
Leadership and team player
Self motivation, creativity, flexibility, positive attitude, and a sense of humor
Willing to jump in and help with day-to-day operations at Herring Gut
First aid and CPR certified
Lifeguard certified

Hours: This position will be part-time (15-20 hours per week) March-May and full-time (40 hours per week) June-August.

Pay: $15/hour

Summer Camp Marine Educator Intern
Deadline to apply: March 27, 2015

Requirements: Attending college or a recent college graduate majoring in marine biology, environmental science, adventure-based environmental education, secondary education, or a related field

Hours: 6 week, 200 hour position with the potential of earning college credit based on sending college's policies

Time Frame: The internship will begin on Monday July 13 and end Friday August 21, 2015, with time for training and debriefing after camp included.

Pay: $2000 stipend, paid bi-weekly with on-site housing provided

Description: Herring Gut Summer Camp is a co-ed marine science day camp for children ages 8-13. The goal of this program is to inspire young people to explore, discover, and learn about Maine's marine resources through the unique, hands-on Herring Gut experience. The Summer Camp Marine Education intern will help manage the camp with program, education, and administrative responsibilities. Through this internship, candidates can expect to gain valuable marine science experience and teaching and leadership skills.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Educating campers in the classroom and field
- Organizing and leading marine science-based activities, games, and art projects
- Supervising campers on excursions to field sites
- Assisting in ensuring the safety of all campers
- Being a role model to campers in attitude and behavior
- Working as a team with other camp staff members
- Assisting in the set-up and clean-up of camp each day

Skills/Qualifications
- First Aid and CPR certification required
- Lifeguard certification desired
- Strong ability to work with children
- Reliability
- Creativity, flexibility, positive attitude, and sense of humor
