The Herring Gut Learning Center campus overlooks Teel Cove in the small harbor town of Port Clyde, occupying one of the most picturesque settings on the coast of Maine. the education center houses modern classrooms, offices and a climate-controlled aquaculture and marine science lab. An attached greenhouse allows the year-round operation of the school's aquaponics facility. The building also contains a fully equipped water quality laboratory, where participants have access to a broad range of technologies, from digital microscopes and chromatography equipment to data sensors and underwater cameras.
Just down the hill is the school's Oyster Hatchery, where dedicated middle school students operate a fully functional seed oyster production facility. The newly-renovated Herring Gut Library is located just one floor up from the hatchery, offering students, staff and community members access to hundreds of marine science and general science titles, as well as a selection of fiction, local history and other texts. A variety of audiovisual technologies and computer resources compliment the ever-growing collection of print media.
Beautiful paths and gardens are maintained across campus by Herring Gut's dedicated Master Gardener. Housing for interns is available on the top floor of the hatchery building overlooking the cove, as well as in the Thomson House, an historic residential home adjacent to the campus proper. The Thomson House is currently undergoing renovations that will allow it to be used as on-site housing for educators participating in Herring Gut's Professional Development Summer Institute.
